Wisdom makes life endurable…. “īut returning to the ghazal. As an old and wise Greek observed, several millenia ago: “ Pain makes man think. Is there a way out? Yes, there is and it is called contemplation. But then we live in a world that is far from perfect and as many events show to many people, like me, it doesnt have to make sense, leave along being fair. This ghazal will, no doubt, strike a chord with all those who lived through the many crises – some of them quite bloody – of the 1980s and 90s – days which now in the past but some of the most negative trends of those years are still far from taking their place in history as they should. Those habituated to attending mushairas will recognise Malikzada Mansoor as a compere par excellence, but as this example shows, he is a thoughtful poet too. I heard snatches of this ghazal years and years and back, and it took me a long time to get the full set of verses.
